3 killed, 3 hurt in suspected DUI crash on Whidbey Island, Island County Washington

SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. - State troopers had to shut down part of Interstate 5 after a car crash and fire early Sunday.  It happened just after 3:30 a.m. on northbound I-5 near the Snohomish-Skagit county line.  Troopers say a car somehow rear ended a truck carrying live crabs. It got stuck and was dragged and then caught fire.  The driver of the car was taken to the hospital.  No one else was hurt.

Snohomish DUI Accident vehicle on display at Evergreen State Fair

The car that carried four people who died after a DUI driver crashed into them last November is on display at the Evergreen State Fair.
Brad and Melissa Agerup and Thomas and Hilda Woods were killed when their car was broadsided on Highway 9 in North Marysville. Prosecutors say the man who crashed his SUV into their sedan drank eight beers before the accident. He was later sentenced to eight years in prison.

In a press release, Snohomish County officials say the car could act as an important deterrent:

"This collision was completely avoidable, and yet we still have grieving families in a community that will be changed forever," said Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon, who had known Brad Agerup for more than 25 years. "I'm grateful to the families for allowing this vehicle to be viewed by the general public. I pray it deters others from making similar mistakes."

"Although this is a graphic display, it is a reality check to what happens when someone chooses to drive under the influence," said Tracy McMillan, Snohomish County's DUI & Target Zero Task Force Manager. "It should be a 100 percent deterrent."

Seattle attorney pleads guilty to DUI in King County District Court (Shoreline)

Prominent Seattle lawyer and TV legal analyst Anne Bremner has pleaded guilty to drunken driving charges filed following allegations that she drove intoxicated from a dinner party with several judges and well-known attorneys. Her attorney blamed the incident on a combination of alcohol and medication she takes for bipolar disorder. The plea also means that Bremner will end her fight to keep documents in the case from being released to reporters, her attorney, Bill Bowman, said.  Bremner, 52, entered the plea following her arraignment Wednesday morning in Shoreline Municipal Court, the first hearing in the case since charges were filed Aug. 18.   District Court Judge Douglas Smith sentenced Bremner to two days in jail.

Personally, I give her credit for taking responsibility, at a heavy cost.  People make mistakes, as she did, but also deserve second chances.
