Anacortes Mt Vernon Skagit County DUI Attorney: Anacortes Police Blotter February 2, 2011

Acting on information about unusual smells coming from a building in the 3000 block of T Avenue, officers served a search warrant for an indoor marijuana growing operation on Thursday.

Inside the building they found more than 200 marijuana plants. About one-quarter of the plants were mature.

Additional harvested marijuana was found in glass containers. The estimated weight of the marijuana was 7 pounds and it is valued at $21,000.

A 53-year-old Anacortes man was arrested and charges are pending on two other Anacortes residents. The suspect reportedly told officers he was growing marijuana for medicinal purposes. However, officers believe the size of the operation well exceeds what is allowed under Washington state's Medical Marijuana law. 

The investigation has been turned over to the Skagit County Interlocal Drug Task Force.

Monday, Jan. 24

• A home on Mitchell Drive was reported burglarized overnight. Neighbors told officers the couple who lives there left for an extended vacation. When the neighbor was checking the home he found someone broke out a window in the garage and entered the home. 
A gray 2007 Saturn Ion with license plate 698VKR was taken as well as numerous items from the home, including liquor, prescription oxycodin, a Phoenix .22 caliber pistol, numerous pieces of jewelry including an antique gold ring with the initials EHH on it, two antique watches, diamond stud earrings and two antique rosaries. 

Tuesday, Jan. 25

• A 28-year-old Anacortes woman was arrested on a charge of DUI after an officer spotted her speeding in the 2200 block of Commercial Avenue around 12:52 a.m. After stopping the vehicle, the officer noticed she smelled strongly of liquor. She failed field sobriety tests, was arrested and taken to the police station for a breath test.

• An Everett man reported his car was prowled sometime in the past two days while parked in a lot in the 1000 block of Q Avenue. Two bottles of prescription medication and $180 worth of CDs were taken from his unlocked vehicle.

• Police received a report that two outboard motors were found hidden in some construction materials in the North Basin parking lot at Cap Sante Boat Haven. A 9.9-horsepower Mercury outboard, a 9.9-horsepower Honda outboard and two gasoline tanks were found. 

Two days later, on Jan. 27, a Vancouver, B.C., resident reported his Mercury outboard was taken from his boat in Cap Sante sometime after Jan. 8. The serial numbers on his outboard matched the recovered outboard. 

• A 43-year-old Anacortes man was arrested for violating a no-contact order and investigation of possession of methamphetamine after officers were called to a disturbance at a home on 33rd Street. A resident reported the man was at his mother's house in violation of a court order and was removing things from the home. Officers contacted the man and arrested him for violating the order. 

While searching the man, an officer found what is believed to be small bag of methamphetamine in the man's pants pocket. Before the officer could say anything the man reportedly said the drugs were not his. The man reportedly claimed "These aren't my pants." After a brief conversation the man allegedly acknowledged ownership of the drugs and the pants. He was booked into jail. 

• An Anacortes Middle School student reported he rode his blue $400 Trek Jumper mountain bicycle to school and left it unlocked in the bicycle rack. When school was out, his bike was gone.

• A woman reported she stopped to see a friend for a few minutes in the 1600 block of 14th Street. Because she was only staying a few minutes she left her car unlocked and her purse sitting on the seat. When her visit ended after 45 minutes she found the black leather purse, which included credit cards and $100 in cash, was missing.

• A 21-year-old woman reported she was assaulted by her 26-year-old boyfriend. Officers responded to a home on Michelle Lane where the woman reported she and her boyfriend argued and he pushed her into a medicine cabinet and then grabbed her by the throat. She said he tried to take her cell phone as she called 911. The man was gone when officers arrived and they were unable to find him. Charges have been referred to the prosecuting attorney for filing. 

• A resident in the 2200 block of 37th Court reported returning home around 8 p.m. to find an intruder in the house. He was described as a young white male wearing jeans and a black hooded sweatshirt. When confronted he ran out of the house and through the yard. 

A canine unit from the Skagit County Sheriff's Office was called and tracked the man for several blocks but was unable to find him. A Colt 1911 .45 caliber pistol was taken from the home. The pistol was carried by the resident's grandfather in WWII and has great sentimental value to the family. 

Wednesday, Jan. 26

• A $100 blue and silver men's three speed Schwin Jaguar bicycle was taken overnight from outside a home in the 1300 block of Ninth Street.

• A resident in the 4700 block of Glasgow Way reported $773 worth of unauthorized purchases made on her debit card in Arizona. The woman's bank was reimbursing her for the fraudulent activities and officers encouraged her to report the activity on http://www.ic3.gov.

Thursday, Jan. 27

• Police received a report of an intoxicated man outside a local establishment in the 300 block of Commercial Avenue at midnight. They contacted a 35-year-old La Conner man who appeared very intoxicated. The man had a warrant for burglary and was arrested. While searching the man before taking him to jail, officers found 10 grams of marijuana. He was cited for possession of marijuana.
