A 14-year-old Anacortes boy was arrested Friday for allegedly committing two burglaries the day before after physical evidence at the scenes linked him to the crime.
A resident in the 1400 block of 19th Street reported their home was entered through an unlocked window sometime before 11 a.m. Thursday. A 9mm Markov pistol and about $100 in change was taken.
A second daytime burglary was reported in the 3100 block of H Avenue where an unknown amount of cash was taken.
None of the property has been recovered and officers are continuing their investigation.
The Anacortes Police Department reports there was an unusually high number of residential burglaries in the last month. Most occurred during daylight hours. The department is asking residents who see suspicious activity in their neighborhood to call 911 and report it immediately. Any other information should be reported to the Anacortes Police Department tip line at 299-1985.

Friday, Jan. 28
• Two high school students are facing charges of illegal possession of drugs after the school notified officers the students had reportedly brought prescription medication to school and distributed it to other students. The students were also expelled from school.
• Officers responded to a domestic call on 15th Street and arrested a 16-year-old boy who reportedly pushed and shoved his father in an argument over the boy being grounded. Because the crime falls under the domestic violence law the boy was booked into juvenile detention.
• A 50-year-old Anacortes woman was arrested on a charge of DUI after an officer spotted her driving westbound on 22nd Street with her vehicles high beams on around 6:50 p.m. The officer signaled her to turn the vehicle's headlights down but she failed to do so. The officer saw her turn onto H Avenue without signaling and then attempted to pull her vehicle over for two blocks before the vehicle stopped.
The woman showed obvious signs of intoxication and failed field sobriety tests. After releasing the young child who was a passenger in the car to a family member, officers arrested the woman and transported her to the police department for a breath test. Her breath alcohol content was more than double the legal limit.
• On January 25th, 2010 an Anacortes, Skagit County citizen reported a possible drunken driver after seeing a man leave an establishment in Anacortes around 10 p.m. Anacortes officers responded and the vehicle was stopped.
The driver allegedly showed obvious signs of intoxication. After failing voluntary field sobriety tests that NHTSA say you cannot fail, he was arrested and taken to the police department for a breath test. His breath alcohol was reported at more than double the legal limit.
Saturday, Jan. 29
• Officers found numerous young adults at a house in the 1000 block of 24th Street after receiving a report of a disturbance around 1:30 a.m. After interviewing all parties involved, a 26-year-old Anacortes woman and a 20-year-old man who resides at the apartment are facing charges of disorderly conduct. Both reportedly claimed to have been assaulted by the other during an argument. Both had minor injuries.
Sunday, Jan. 30
• Officers responded to a domestic call on Piper Circle just after midnight. When they got there, a 57-year-old Anacortes man left the house and reportedly announced to the officers he was going to jail. On further investigation it was learned the man allegedly lost his temper over a parenting issue and struck his teenage son giving him a bloody nose and reportedly pushing his wife when she tried to intervene. Officers also saw where the man punched through drywall in the home with his fist. He was arrested on a charge of domestic assault and booked into jail.
Monday, Jan. 31
• Officers responded to a report of domestic violence on 16th Street around 4:55 p.m. where the 40-year-old resident reported his 44-year-old girlfriend assaulted him. Officers saw scratches to his hands and face. They found the girlfriend a short distance away. She reportedly claimed to be the victim of an assault and she had red marks on both sides of her neck from being choked and a knot on her head where she claimed to have been hit.
Officers arrested the boyfriend on a charge of domestic assault. The girlfriend had several outstanding warrants and was also arrested.
• A resident in the 2900 block of I Avenue reported their home was broken into sometime between 1:30 and 6 p.m. Thieves broke a window out to gain entry to the residence and stole the family's Nintendo Wii and several games that went with it.
Tuesday, Feb. 1
• A business owner in the 2300 block of 11th Street reported someone tried to break into their locking mailbox overnight. The mailbox is co-located with others at the corner of 11th Street and B Avenue. Officers saw someone tried to pry open the mailbox but was unsuccessful. A screwdriver was left behind by the would-be thief.
• A resident in the 6000 block of Curtis Street reported someone stole the $100 bird bath from their lawn overnight. The two-piece bird bath had a flower-shaped bowl set on a pedestal piece.
Wednesday, Feb. 2
• An officer on routine patrol in the area of 32nd Street and Commercial Avenue spotted a red 1998 Chevrolet Blazer that the officer was familiar with from previous contacts. The driver, a 21-year-old Anacortes man, did not have a valid license. After stopping the vehicle and arresting the driver on a charge of driving on a suspended license, a small amount of methamphetamine was found on the driver. He was also arrested for possession of the drugs.
Officers also cited the registered owner of the car for allowing an unlicensed driver to operate it. She had been previously warned not to allow the man to continue to drive her car.
• A 33-year-old Anacortes man was arrested on a charge of possession of oxycodone following a traffic stop in the 2500 block of Commercial Avenue around 7:17 p.m. An officer spotted a vehicle driving without headlights and pulled the car over. The driver had a suspended license and an outstanding arrest warrant. The drugs were found on the man at the time of his arrest.
Thursday, Feb. 3
• A resident in the 1200 block of Sixth Street reported they inadvertently left their car unlocked and a purse with a checkbook and credit card were inside. That afternoon they found the purse and contents were missing.
