Seattle Bothell DUI Drunk Driving Lawyer:  Drug-court case manager twice charged with DUI

A case manager in the King County Drug Diversion Court Program — which works to break people from drug and alcohol addiction and accompanying crimes — has been charged twice this year with drunken driving.

James Hanken, 44, was placed on paid administrative leave Thursday morning as supervisors at the program continue their investigation to decide whether he should keep his job, said Nancy Buonanno Grennan, assistant director of human resources for King County.

Hanken, who has not been convicted in either incident, was first pulled over Feb. 26 in Carnation for driving through a stop sign, according to Duvall-Carnation police records.

Breath tests showed 0.18 percent and 0.183 percent blood-alcohol levels, the report says. The legal limit in Washington is 0.08 percent.

He was charged March 29 with driving under the influence, according to court records.

In the second incident, Hanken was pulled over and arrested in Bothell. He refused to take a blood-alcohol test but smelled of alcohol, had two beer-bottle caps in his pockets, his eyes were "watery, droopy and bloodshot" and his cheeks were flushed, according to a Bothell police report.

He was charged July 1 with driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license.

Officials at the King County Drug Diversion Court Program are looking at the charges, whether jail time impacted Hanken's ability to get to work and if he was honest about the incidents, Bailey said.
