Question: What happens when you miss your court date for a DUI?
Question Detail: I missed my court date and I am worried about the repercussions of this. I was dealing with some family issues when I had to be appear in court. What can I do?

 

If you miss a court date you must immediately remedy the problem.  If you have an attorney, call him/her asap.  If you do not, call a DUI and discuss the problem (as many factors may turn this “little” problem into a big problem.  If you do neither, phone the court and see what can be done to quash the bench warrant.  Some courts will allow you to appear in court, pay a small fine (ie. $25) and the bench warrant is quashed.  Other courts will allow you to appear in front of the Judge to explain the situation and quash the bench warrant.  Finally some courts will demand you turn yourself into jail.  This is why it is important to talk with an attorney.
